Novel coronavirus cases in the US has surpassed the grim 10 million milestones, comprising a staggering 20% of the global total cases from the novel virus that originated in Wuhan, China, in 2019.

New cases kept surging by over 100,000 for the fourth consecutive day with November 7 recording the highest in this week, the COVID Tracking Project data shows.

November marks the time the novel coronavirus is said to have been circulating in China, which was reported by whistleblower doctor only in December. But much later in March, WHO declared the new virus as a pandemic.

As per Reuters tally for Sunday, the US becomes the only and the first nation in the world to amass a whopping total cases count of 10 million, the same day when the global total crossed 50 million marks.

The US, which just came over an erratic election with President-elect Joe Biden prepping for White House occupancy, the third wave of the pandemic is also raging the nation at the same time.

In just 10 days, the US recorded over 1 million new cases, with Texas becoming the first US state to record 1 million cases total. The ‘Lone Star State’ Friday registered 1,000,589 cases on Friday alone, as per an NBC News report which accounts 10% of the total US cases.

Meanwhile, New York remains the states with the most number of COVID-19 cases at 33,000 fatalities accounting for about 14% of total U.S. deaths, Reuters reports.

Midwestern states of Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa remain the worst-hit states with the highest per-capita COVID-19 cases in the country.

On Sunday, 103k new COVID-19 cases were recorded from across the US, COVID Tracking Project data shows, which is the highest recorded on a Sunday.

The death toll stood at 229,700 cases, with 450 plus adding up on November 8. Despite the somber condition at least a dozen US states do not require wearing masks in public mandatorily.

As per Reuters tally, the seven-day average of new cases stands at 105,600 daily, a 29% spurt. This growth is more than the average of France and Indian combined, which are two of Europe’s and Asia’s worst-hit nations.

President-elect Joe Biden has pledged to make handling the pandemic the top priority and on Monday he’s due to announce a 12-member coronavirus task force that will be reportedly led by former surgeon general Vivek Murthy and former Food and Drug Administration commissioner David Kessler.

Despite the pandemic outlaying its fiercest disposition in the US, a historic number of people turned out to vote for the President, as polls closed Tuesday last week.

The mail-in ballot was used by a historic number of people to prevent in-person voting which could potentially spread the virus, but the system was demonized by President Donald Trump with claims of fraud, without any evidence.

Mr. Biden’s Presidential win comes amid a once-in-a-century pandemic, historic unemployment, and record economic slowdown; the weight of expectations from a nation currently reeling from the botched response to the pandemic from the incumbent President weights Mr. Biden, unequivocally.
