No international passenger flights to and fro India till August 31st: Civil Aviation DG

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Indian on Friday announced no international flights will be allowed in and out of the Indian subcontinent until August 31st, a one-month extension from the former July 31st deadline.

The announcement comes as a number of Indian states are noticing a resurgence of the virus. Back in March, scheduled international flights were stopped to contain the spread of the virus.

The DGCA, in a statement, said the government has decided to “extend the suspension on the Scheduled International Commercial Passenger Services to/from India up to 23:59 hours IST of 31st August”, PTI reports.

This restriction is meant for the scheduled international passenger flights, and not applicable to cargo flights operating two and fro as allowed by the DGCA.

Aso, during the same international travel restriction, the DGCA has allowed thousands of repatriation flights to ferry Indian passengers to/from India through many international carriers.

Earlier this month, India established international ‘travel bubbles’ with France and the US upon mutual co-operation. Starting July 23rd, the US and France and Germany carriers have been allowed to conduct chartered flights from and to India.

Meanwhile, India has allowed domestic air travel in between some states. Since March 25th, until July 30th, 840 departures took place, 74,451 passengers have been handled with strict hygiene and social distancing protocols, according to data revealed by Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs.

Kolkata just recently banned flights from six COVID-hotspot states: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, and Pune. until August 31st, in a bid to prevent the transmission of the virus.

The restriction on arriving flights to #KolkataAirport from 6 cities viz Delhi, Mumbai,Pune,Chennai, Nagpur & Ahmedabad has been extended upto 15th August 2020. @AAI_Official @MoCA_GoI @HardeepSPuri @arvsingh01 @HomeBengal @MoHFW_INDIA @wbdhfw
