Lufthansa eyes Mumbai-Frankfurt route as one of its first long haul service resumes

German airlines Lufthansa declared in an official statement that it is cooking plans to resume service to India, eyeing the Mumbai-Frankfurt route by June this year, ANI reports. However, the final service resumption will depend on government approvals.

Bookings for the first round of flights have been made available online, from May 14th. A Mumbai to Frankfurt economy class one way trip is currently starting from 46,875 ₹.

Owing to worldwide lockdown, international borders remain shut. Lufthansa group’s announcement comes as one of the first major international careers to plan to resume flights in India, albeit selected routes.

The airlines reportedly plan to operate 130 other flights across destinations in the world. Resuming services in India will depend on regulatory approval, however.

The airline group is resuming other international destinations as well, spanning “more than 1800 weekly connections to over 160 destinations.”

“I am quite proud of our decision to have Mumbai as one of the first destinations for increasing our long-haul services,”  George Ettiyil, the Senior Director Sales, South Asia at Lufthansa Group told in a statement.

He added that this plan reflects the robust demand for flights in and from India, even in times of crisis like this.
