Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh is India’s 29th international airport

-

The Union Cabinet just recently announced that the Kushinagar Airport in Uttar Pradesh will be deemed as an international airport, making it India’s 29th International airport.

The decision headed by the Prime Minister of India is being seen as a developmental move which is a part of the 20-lakh crore economic stimulus to boost the nation’s pandemic-stuck economy.

The airport will aid in the state’s tourism, especially of Kushinagar, which is in the vicinity of other important sites like Kapilavastu Lumbini and Gaya, significant to the Buddhists.

Direct international connectivity to Kushinagar will substantially increase the number of foreign & domestic tourists to the region.

This will also provide impetus to economic development of the region by enabling growth of tourism & hospitality ecosystem in the area.

Moreover, Kushinagar is a part of the ‘Buddhist Circuit’ (a route that follows footsteps of the Buddha in India) and is reportedly visited by hundreds of millions of practicing Buddhists from different countries. The need for an international airport in the region was long demanded by the tourists.

“Kushinagar Airport is located in the vicinity of several Buddhist Cultural Sites like Sravasti, Kapilvastu, Lumbini (Kushinagar itself is a Buddhist cultural site) and declaration as an “International Airport” will offer improved connectivity, a wider choice of competitive costs to the air-travelers.  It will result in boosting domestic/international tourism and economic development of the regions,” the Cabinet wrote in an official statement.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked the government saying: “The move will help boost tourism in UP due to airport’s proximity to Shravasti, Lumbini, Kapilvastu, Sarnath and Gaya tourist places”.

Great news for Uttar Pradesh, tourism and those inspired by the noble thoughts of Lord Buddha!

Kushinagar Airport will now be an international airport. Connectivity will improve significantly. More tourists and pilgrims will also mean better opportunities for local population.
