Summers in the South Asian countries, for instance, are really strong and if you are not well equipped to tackle the heat, your entire vacation can go wrong….. Don’t you worry folks!

Here’s taking you through the problems faced while traveling in summer and the solution to tackle the same.

Here is a list of problems that you are likely to encounter on a summer trip:

  • Fatigue and dehydration
  • Sunburns
  • Heat allergy
  • Dry skin
  • Sudden hunger
  • Tired Eyes
  • Sunstroke (worst case scenario)

The above-stated list pretty much covers everything to ruin your dream vacation.

Yet, the silver lining is the fact that these can be prevented if you are well equipped.

With the right things up your sleeve, the sun won’t be able to beat you down.

Top 10 Summer Travel Essentials You Should Not Miss

1. Shades/ Hats

I have deliberately added these to top the list.

If your eyes are covered in a soothing pair of shades/ sunglasses, your body feels relieved.

The same goes with the hat.

When your face is covered from the glaring heat, your brain tricks you to feeling cool from inside.

They give the much-needed relief from the scorching sun.

2. Light clothing

Summer is humid. And you will surely not want your clothing to stick to your body to add to the discomfort.

Choose linen or cotton based clothes that are more breathable than dense materials like denim.

Although a pair of jeans is a traveler’s first choice, it is highly recommended to stick to cotton chinos or trousers for men and flowery skirts or dresses for women.

3. Umbrella

Although an unconventional item in the list yet an absolute must.

Try taking your umbrella for outdoor activities and feel the difference right away.

The shade from the umbrella will make you more energetic and as a bonus, colorful and funky umbrellas add a lot of color and dimension to your pictures.

Give it a try.

4. Sunscreen lotions

It goes without saying that these minimize the harmful effects of the sun on your skin.

Choose SPF 30 or above and preferably a gel-based formula to get rid of a sticky feeling.

Before anything put the good oi’ bottle of your favorite sunscreen.

It plays a crucial role in protecting the skin from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays that are associated with premature aging, fine lines, and wrinkle, according to Florida Dermatology and Skin Cancer Centers.

Whatis worth noting, UVA rays can pass through the glass, hence you’re not safe from them even while sitting inside a car and so on.

UVB rays can’t pass through glass and are known to cause sunburns.

Both these rays are carcinogenic or cancer-causing.

You ought to keep yourself protected at any cost.

A good sunscreen of at least SPF 30 must be there for you as you travel.

Also do note that UV rays can penetrate loud covers by up to 80% and snow, water, and even sand reflects UV.

So don’t assume you won’t need sunscreen on a cloudy day.

Or when you’re visiting a snow-covered hill station or desert.

5. Glucose based drinks

For quick fixes, you can also carry some ORS pouches so that you can sip it at regular intervals.

Any other glucose-based drinks will do the work of replenishing your body from losing essential fluid.

You can stock up glucose in powder form or buy it on the spot when you go for an outing.

6. Refreshing Skin Wipes

Nothing will give you a better feeling of wiping sticky sweat off your exposed body parts.

All thanks to the variety of wet wipes available in the market today, you can easily refresh yourself with a mild smelling wet tissue. Choose your product wisely.

7. Hand fan

This is something that we tend to forget most of the time but a hand fan(manual or electric) feels like heaven at times when battling the harsh sun rays makes us irritable.

Just fan yourself and relax.

Plus how can you forget the classic travel shots you can get with it (wink).

8. Some dry fruits/ chocolates

Traveling in summer can bring a lot of fatigue. The best way to fight fatigue between travels is to give your body the power of dry fruits or chocolates.

Dry fruits and chocolates give us instant energy.

Nowadays a lot of energy bars available in the market.

They take little space in your bag but comes in really handy at times.

9. Old Newspaper

While traveling, you can come across a number of the place where a proper sitting arrangement might not be there.

Or it might be that the only place left is to worth sitting on.

Or even all of a sudden you might need o to sit to ease a strain in your back.

The reasons can be many. Carrying old newspapers is a cheap, effective, and eco-friendly way to go through this issue.

10. Medicines

Anti-bloating, anti-acid, paracetamols, mild laxative, mild pain-relievers, antidiarrheal, antibiotic ointment or powder (prevent infection and scarring), an antihistamine for allergies (you never know what environment can trigger), mild sleep aid (you wouldn’t want dark circles), common cold remedies to aid, motion sickness medications, hydrocortisone cream 9for insect bites and stuff).

These all pretty much covers the most basic aids.

And if things escalate more, I am afraid, the hospital or local dispensary is the only place you’ve to be my dear.

# Bonus tip

If you feel extremely bogged down with heat then sit in a place, close your eyes and take deep breaths in and out for a few minutes.

It will surely relax you down. With most of these summer travel essentials, you will definitely be well equipped to tackle the summer heat.
