Niu launches e-kick scooters in US, Europe starting $599
Siliguri, India: Niu Technologies, a Chinese electric scooter manufacturer, announced on Wednesday that it will launch the first kick scooter model in the United States and Europe, as well as four electric bike versions, as part of an expansion of its product line-up.
According to Reuters, Niu, which is known for its e-motorbikes powered by lithium-ion batteries sold some 600,892 two-wheelers globally last year, up nearly 43% from 2019 sales.
Currently, the company manufactures all of its products in China's biggest city, Changzhou. It is also doubling its manufacturing capacity in that location, with an annual production capacity of 2 million scooters.
What are the offerings?
According to reports, the new two-wheelers will be available in China, Europe, and North America beginning this summer.
The Verge reports, the NIU Kick Scooter will be available in two models: Pro and Sport.
With a top speed of 19.8 mph, the Pro scooter will have a top speed in the United States, while the Sport edition will have a top speed of 17.4 mph.
Both models will have a limited top speed of 25 km/h in Europe (15.5 mph). The Pro has a range of 31 miles (50 kilometers) on a single 7.5-hour charge, whereas the Sport has a range of 25 miles (40 kilometers) on a single 5.5-hour charge.

Powering the mobility, the Pro kick version will be powered by a 350W motor and a 486Wh lithium-ion battery pack.
The Sport version will flaunt a 300W drivetrain and a 365Wh battery pack.
Both scooters are water-resistant, foldable, and feature Bluetooth app communication and regenerative braking. The cheapest version of the scooter will start at $599, but NIU has yet to release any pricing details, the Verge reports.
Available for purchase in a handful of North American cities like San Francisco, San Diego, Austin, Chicago, Washington, DC, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Honolulu -- NIU is best known for its famous $2,000 electric mopeds, which have been used by shared mobility companies such as Revel and Lime.
When can I get mine?
The kick scooter will go on pre-sale in June 2021, with the launch in the United States and Europe planned for July 2021.
The scooter will be available for purchase online or at any of NIU's dealerships and stores in Europe and North America beginning in August 2021, the Verge reported.
