You can’t wear them while driving, Futuremood warns, “because the effects can be intense.”
A California-based optics company is betting to usher a new era of sunglasses. This time, apart from delivering style, UV protection, and all the usuals, you will pop on a pair of future on your eyes (with swag) to change your mood. And it is not all talks. Futuremood, the company behind this potentially game-changing glasses has science backing their venture.
Either circular or boxy, you get to choose from the two staple shapes of the frame that are chunky by the looks which the company says is built like a Bentley. After shapes, comes the most important part, the optics, and here the real game begins.
Futuremood absolutely dwarfs the traditional shades in the optics department. Developed and designed by the world-famous optic-maker Zeiss, these lenses are a physical manifestation of the company’s eponymous Halochrome lenses. For the uninitiated, Zeiss optics recorded the landing on the moon. And it’s replacing the Hubble telescope- pretty big deals huh?
Well, what do they do?
They can change the way you feel.
As godly as it sounds, it’s simply scientific. Harnessing our brian’s innate adoration of colors, scientists are fooling it with a set of tinted lense designed and developed in-house at Zeiss to invoke psychological and physiological responses. The result? You’ll feel refreshed, or energetic, or focused or calm depending on the pair of Aura sunglasses you choose.
Futuremood’s offering is employing Zeiss’s BioChrom technology lenses in their sunglasses making their offering superglass of sunglasses. “These lenses not only offer UV protection but also positively impact our mood, performance, and sense of well-being,” according to Zeiss.
“This is important because market research from Zeiss has shown that consumers increasingly ask for products that complement a healthy lifestyle, resonate emotionally, and increase performance,” the company adds.
Explain more, please…
By now it is clear that two visionary firms have partnered. Now the technical part. Futuremood’s sunglasses are available in four tints. A refreshing blue, a serene green, and evoking red, and a focusing yellow. These colors, as mentioned earlier are scientifically proven in research conducted by Zeiss in top European universities to manifest real-life and instant effects.
“LIGHT AND COLOR ARE THE FASTEST, MOST NATURAL WAYS TO ALTER YOUR STATE OF MIND.”
TechCrunch notes the science, although tested in two universities is preliminary research and is largely unproven, the founders behind the company, Austin Soldner and Michael Schaecher believe in the “material science experimentation and product development.” Futuremood is supposed to be the vehicle to reach its ambitious goal (I am in).
“HALOCHROME – A LENS THAT ELICITS OR SUBDUES SPECIFIC EMOTIONS & MENTAL STATES.”
“We really saw an opportunity to push the envelope in technical innovation and product innovation. We have a backlog of stuff to push the envelope of what sunglasses are,” Schaecher said.
“IT WORKS INSIDE & OUTSIDE, DAY OR NIGHT.”
The duo is trying to breakthrough the sunglass space with technical innovation and product development that they feel has been missing in this specific industry. Otherwise, data suggests sunglasses is a prosperous industry with consumers reportedly spending $14.5 billion in 2018, research states.
“SO YOU CAN ALTER YOUR MOOD – AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT.”
Some specifications of the sunglasses are: the lesne is anti-reflective, anti-scratch, water resistant, UV resistant.
