The Kolkata-bred popular music label Saregama just recently announced a global partnership with social media giant Facebook, allowing users for the first time to set retro Bollywood music from a collection of 100,000 songs on their Facebook and Instagram posts and stories.

Saregama is one of India’s biggest music labels and stocks shot up 20% as the announcement came on Wednesday, Reuters reports. Financial deals were not disclosed.

Saregama is credited to launch the nation’s first-ever studio-recorded song in 1902. Many people are aware of its household branding called HMV under which it sold assets and Vynils for decades.

Wondering what is in the extensive catalog of 100k songs? India’s most popular singers including the likes of Bollywood legends like Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, RD Burman, MD Rafi, Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar, and the likes.

Disclosing the deal, Facebook India’s head of Partnerships, Manish Chopra said that the deal will allow users across the world to apply retro Indian audio in their posts to further enrich content.

Facebook already allows users to access Spotify’s extensive library for use in stories and posts. Now the 80-90s generation is in tandem with technology on par with their younger counterparts. Spotify, in turn recently struck a deal with Saregama to enrich their library of retro-themed Bollywood music in India.
