Reddit Co-founder Alexis Ohanian Steps Down Calls For A Black Candidate To Take His Seat - We The World Magazine

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian just recently announced his resignation from the popular company he co-founded 15-yers back, and instead calls for a black candidate to take charge, Ohanian tweets.

Reddit is a massive social media platform for news aggregation, content rating, discussions. The 19th most-visited site of America and the world, Reddit has a dedicated user base that is highly community-bound and engaging. Ohanian co-founded the site with the current CEO Steve Huffman. Alexis is married to Grand Slam winner Serena Williams with whom he shares a daughter.

In the announcement tweet, Ohanian writes: “I co-founded @reddit 15 years ago to help people find community and a sense of belonging.”

“It is long overdue to do the right thing. I’m doing this for me, for my family, and for my country.”

With the resignation, the Reddit co-founder says that he urged to fill his seat with a black candidate. He also promised to serve the black communities with the gains he will derive from his shares in Reddit.

He has pledged $1 million to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp, joining Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey who donated $3 million to the charity that seeks to uplift people of color communities.

In a video message, Alexis Ohanian says he is stepping down for himself, for his family and his country. “I am saying this as a father, who needs to be able to answer to his black daughter when she asks what did you do?”
