Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation today, in perhaps one of the shortest speeches in recent months. Highlights of the announcement include an extension of the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and a potential ‘one nation one ration card.’

In his brief address today, India’s Central Government announced that the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will be extended till the end of November this year. Eighty crore people will be able to avail free grains under this extension that will cost the nation 90k crores.

Another main highlight of the address was the ‘One nation One Ration’ scheme, where one ration card is being arranged for use all over India. he told migrant workers will be immensely benefited from this scheme.

In his 17-minutes long speech the PM made no mention of the recent India-China face-off. This was the PM’s first address to the nation since the two nuclear-powered nations fought in a bloody fisticuff.

Modi started the address by reiterating conditions India’s Lockdown 1.0 and the fact India is entering the flu season. He urged people to take care.

He told about the current situation of pandemic and about the number of related deaths, India is in a relatively better condition than many other countries. He credited the timely implementation of lockdown and other prompt decisions by the country that saved the lives of lakhs of Indians.

The Prime Minister also noted that since the country entered Unlock 1.0, personal and social negligence on prescribed protocols has been on the rise. He urged people to ensure social distancing is maintained.
