No regular trains until August 12: Indian Railways - We The World Magazine

A new decision taken by the Indian Railways says all the scheduled mail, express, passenger and suburban trains stands cancelled until August 12th.

Initial schedule was to start regular railway service from July 1st. But the new announcement postpones the scheduled resume to more than a month behind, according to reports.

The announcement comes amid a growing number of coronavirus cases in India. Just recently Delhi overtook Mumbai to become the city with the most cases in India.

However, the 100 pairs of special mail and express trains plying since June 1 will continue operation and so the special trains running since May 1, the regulatory notification says. Also, suburban trains meant to ferry frontline and essential workers will continue operations, according to reports.

Tickets of all the regular trains will be canceled and the refunds will be initiated. Public transport was curbed in March to stop the spread of the virus. There are no reports as of now about the resumption of international flights.
