Sushant Singh Rajput death: CBI to probe the actor’s dubious ‘suicide’

-

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said on Wednesday it will probe the recent death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s that has been a highly controversial case after Mumbai police declared the death as ‘suicide.’

Rajput, 34, was found dead at his Mumbai apartment in Juhu after phone calls to the actor went unanswered. When police reached the spot to discover, the actor was found hanging on the ceiling on June 14th, media reported.

Police did not find any suicide note in the scene, and after autopsy reports it was declared the actor died from suicide or ‘accidental death.’

The very ruling evoked a storm on social media, sending the actor’s fans and many members of the Bollywood film fraternity into disbelief.

Since then the actor’s death has been on the prime time coverage of Indian media and has given rise to numerous controversial theories on the actor’s death on social media which many believe is a ‘murder’.

Rajput hometown, the Indian state of Bihar, saw an eruption of calls for federal investigation probe on the matter, which was joined by the state government and the actor’s family.

“The state government has sent its recommendation for a CBI probe into the FIR registered by Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh,” Bihar CM Nitish Kumar wrote in a tweet in Hindi.

After a series of debates, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the Narendra Modi-led government has approved Bihar government’s request to transfer the case from Mumbai Police to CBI, India’s apex investigation agency, news agency Reuters reports.

Sushant Sing Rajput hailed from a middle-class family whose career started off through television soap opera and later took to the silver screen where he found success. But like many other newcomers, he had to face off the industry’s ingrained insularities.

The actor’s case, since June, has been on the trending list of almost every major social media in India. Just recently, the actor’s last girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty had to undergo the wrath of social media, from getting death threats to becoming meme material, she was alleged to lead the Sushant to death.
