Social distancing goes in lockdown at Mumbai’s Marine Drive on Sunday

-

Significant numbers of people were spotted crowding Mumbai’s iconic Marine Drive, days after the Maharashtra government eased some travel restrictions under the “Mission, Begin Again” policy.

Images shared on social media show people in considerable numbers crowding the seas-side walk on Sunday morning, wearing masks. Even Bollywood couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor along with their kiddo Timur took the chance to get some fresh air.

The local police were reportedly deployed in the area asked people to keep their distance while enjoying the walk near the sea. The place was however deserted after 7 pm, as per the government restriction on movement between 5 am to 7 pm. Apparently, people wanted to enjoy the little liberty to the max.

Mumbai is the coronavirus hotspot of the country, with Maharashtra alone having 85,975 cases and 91 deaths in the city. The State government under the “Mission Begin Again” allowed shops (except malls), public market areas to open from June 5 on an odd-even basis in the non-containment zones.
