Karachi blast: at least 5 killed, 20 injured in a deadly explosion

-

Karachi blast: at least 5 people have died and twenty reported injured as of now after a huge explosion hit a multi-storied building in Karachi’s Gulshan-i-Iqbal area.

The cause of the explosion is under official investigation, but unofficial assertions say it was caused by a cylinder explosion on the building’s second floor, Pakistani media reported.

Social media is flooded with images of the explosion. A part of the building can be seen badly damaged in the aftermath. The windows of the nearby buildings and some cars were damaged as a result of the explosion.

Amid massive anti-govt. rallies across Pakistan, a huge explosion rocked the port city of #Karachi in Sindh province at a 4-storey building opposite Karachi University Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Officials told the deceased and the injured were rushed to the nearby Patel Hospital. Mubina Town police SHO confirmed a bomb disposal team has been deployed to understand the nature of the blast.

Turning down assertions of a potential terrorist attack, PPP Minister Saeed Ghani said the cause can be confirmed only after investigation.

The blast comes a day after tens of thousands rallied in the city of Karachi demanding the resignation of the current PM Imran Khan, who protestors allege was placed to power by the military in a rigged election.

Nine major Pakistani opposition merged together to form the Pakistani Democratic Movement, and the Karachi mass protest was the third similar demonstration seeking to oust Imran Khan from power.

The major blast prompted parallels with a ‘civil war’ like situation in the nation which apart from the pandemic is amid unprecedented political turmoil.

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and a sprawling metropolis has historically been the hotbed of political, social, and religious discontent, which has only exaggerated by the Imran-Khan-regime.

Just one day ago, an explosion wounded five people in a bus terminus near Sheerin Jinnah Colony, media reports confirmed.
