India’s Coronavirus caseload tops 3.1 million

India’s coronavirus cases surpassed a grim 3.1 million on Sunday as 61,408 new cases get added to the growing list of infections, federal health ministry data showed.

In the last 24-hours, more than 60k new infections were counted, as for days in row now, more than 55k infections have been a standard.

As per Reuters data, in 17 days, Indian crossed the next million. India is the worst-hit nation in Asia and the third worst-hit after brazil and the US.

In the 24-hours, 836 new deaths took the total fatality rate to 57,542. Most fresh cases have shot up in Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, among other states.

Globally, the numbers of coronavirus infections have surpassed 23 million with the graph of the US still steadily advancing. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump approves plasma therapy to patients in serious need saying “is a powerful therapy.

India has been vouching for plasma therapy – a still experimental treatment for COVID-19 where plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients is administered into sick patients to boost immunity against the disease.

“Today’s action will dramatically expand access to this treatment,” Trump said in a White House address. Trump’s announcement was preceded by the US Food and Drug Administration giving clearance for the convalescent plasma for use in certain patients.
