Actor Ajaz Khan arrested in drugs case

Siliguri, India: Actor Ajaz Khan, also a former Big Boss star was arrested Wednesday by India's drug regulatory authority on a drug angle, a day after the actor was probed over restricted drugs found at his Mumbai home.

Khan was reportedly taken into custody from Mumbai airport upon his return from Rajasthan, Press Trust of India reported. Narcotic Control Bureau of India found alprazolam tablets from his residence in Mumbai's Andheri.

As per the NCB, the former Big Boss star is a part of Narcotic peddler Shadab Farooque Shaikh alias Shadab Batata's syndicate.

Shaikh was reportedly arrested last Thursday and over 2 kilograms of a banned drug called mephedrone were recovered from him.

NCB reached to Khan after Mr. Batata revealed his associations to the federal agency. Khan was questioned at the Mumbai office, and while being interrogated by reporters outside the NCB office, the actor asserted he was not detained but came to the office voluntarily.

“Neither was anything found from my home nor from the airport,” Mr. Khan said today while talking to reporters while being taken away by officials.

Upon repeatedly pressed for the drugs found at his home, Khan said what the officers discovered was four sleeping pills, which were used by his wife after she was depressed from a miscarriage.

Ajaz Khan's arrest comes as a part of the federal narcotics control board's heightened oversight on Bollywood after the death of Sushant Sing Rajput initiated a reverberating series of several high-profile probes in the industry.

A number of Bollywood A-listers, including Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shraddha Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan have been questioned by the NCB during this phase.

On Monday the NCB intercepted a Nigerian national and seized 200 grams of Mephedrone from the Navi Mumbai area, ANI reported.

On the same day, the federal agency took custody of six Sri Lankan nationals trying to enter India via boats with 300 kilograms of heroine and a massive collection of ammunition and arms, as ANI.
