Siddharth Shukla, TV icon, Big Boss 13 winner dead at 40

-

Kolkata, India: Popular Indian TV actor known for his time on the silver screen, and winner of the long-running reality show Big Boss 13 died Thursday, Indian media reported.

Shukla was brought dead at Mumbai’s Cooper hospital, hospital sources told the BBC. He died of cardiac arrest. The actor is survived by his mother, Ritu, and two sisters.

Until earlier this week, Sidharth Shukla was active on Twitter. On August 30, he sent out a tweet congratulating Sunil Antil and Avani Lekhara on their gold medals at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Social media updates showed Shukla’s body was being prepared to be taken home from Mumbai’s hospital where an autopsy was scheduled.

Sidharth Shukla began his career in the showbiz as a model before making his acting debut in the 2008 television series Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na.

Mr. Shukla also appeared in Jaane Pehchaane SeYe Ajnabbi, Love You Zindagi, CID, and Dil Se Dil Tak, among other series.

He rose to fame after starring alongside late actress Pratyusha Banerjee in the hit Hindi-language serial Balika Vadhu.

Tributes

The sudden demise of the actor prompted tributes from across the Indian film industry — both big and small screen.

Shukla’s colleague, who is a popular host in another Indian reality show Roadies, Karan Kundra, revealed he spoke to the actor just hours before he passed away.

“Shocking.. just last night we were talking about how well you’re doing.. can’t believe! Gone too soon buddy gone too soon RIP will remember you always smiling.. extremely sad,” Karan wrote on Instagram, with a picture of Sidharth.

Other Bollywood stars, including Karan Johar, Parineeti Chopra, Sunil Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Bipasha Basu amongst others.

Sidharth was last seen opposite Sonia Rathee in the ALTBalaji serial Broken But Beautiful 3. In May, the show went live on the internet.
