India coronavirus: record daily jump takes national total over 4.4 million

India coronavirus: total coronavirus caseload surpassed 4.4 million after another day of record-breaking new infections arise within 24-hours, federal health ministry data showed.

On Thursday, 95, 735 new cases took India’s COVID-19 national total to 4,465,863 cases, the second-highest in the world after the United States of America.

Within the same time-frame, 1,172 deaths were also recorded – the highest count in more than a month, in the last 24-hours, taking the nation’s total mortality to 75,062.

India’s state of Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is the capital continues to remain the hotspot of the virus in the nation with 9,67,349 cases in the state alone.

New cases have also sprouted up over a thousand in the last 24-hours in states of Chattisgarh, NCR Delhi, Kerela, and over two thousand in Karnataka among other spurts in lesser number across other Indian states.

India is the worst-hit nation with COVID-19 after US which has over 6 million cases and the highest rate of mortality than anywhere else in the world.

India’s aggressive testing, tracing, and treating strategy since the last month has fanned the nation’s caseload, however, as the government presses, it has also helped keep India’s mortality rate lower than other nations, given its billion-plus population.

Some experts also credit different and lesser potential starin of the novel coronavirus in India is the reason for its comparatively lower death rate. At present India’s COVID-19 recovery rate is 77.74% which has grown in the recent months.
