India coronavirus: 66,999 cases in a single day sets daily record

Coronavirus cases in India set a new daily record on Thursday after 66,999 new cases emerged while the death toll from the virus touch 47,000, federal health ministry data showed.

India, whose caseload is lesser only to the US and Brazil records over 50k cases daily for 15-days in a row now. On Thursday, India overtook Britain to become the nation with the fourth-highest number of COVID fatalities in the world, TOI reports.

Coronavirus fatality rates of Britain dropped by over 5k after the nation ordered recalculation of the COVID-19 facility over concerns of overestimations.

Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Gujrat, Karnataka, Kerala among others are worst-affected in the country, health ministry data show.

It must be noted, India’s fatality rates are comparatively lower than in other countries. As per the health ministry, 70% of the COVID death in the nation happened due to comorbid health conditions.

Currently, India’s recovery rate stands at 70%.
