India breaks another daily record with 83,883 new COVID-19 cases

Another record daily jump with 83,883 new cases on Thursday took India’s COVID-19 tally at 3.85 million, just short of another 100,000 to reach the tally of Brazil, federal health ministry data showed Thursday.

India is by far the most-affected country in Asia, with caseload steadily piling up against the two other worst-affected nations in the world, that is the US and Brazil.

This is not the first record-breaking number of new infections piling up daily. Last month, India broke records almost every day, with 60k plus cases on a rough average, before touching the 70k plus levels.

Reuters noted, activities in India’s crippling service industry fell for the sixth straight month in August, despite the Narendra Modi-led Central have been moving ahead gradually with its Unlock plans.

India’s economy already shrank by a quater in April and June and the road to recovery is painful. Reuters also noted, business in the next 12-months also show neutrality with a little hope for imminent turnaround.

India is currently under its Unlock 4.0 schedule where the nation’s metro rail service is being thrown open, along with some religios and political activities in limited numbers.
