ICSE syllabus slashed, council introduces new marking scheme for canceled finals

-

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has announced it will slash the syllabus of all the major subjects for ICSE and the ISC levels, ANI reports.

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted every possible sphere of life, starting from workplaces to life in schools. In the light of the unprecedented changes, the board has announced a significant reduction of 25% in the current syllabus for ICSE and ISC levels, namely standard X and XII, citing “significant shortening of the academic year and loss of the instructional hours.”

“While a number of CISCE affiliated schools have tried to adapt to this changed scenario and have tried to keep alive the teaching-learning process through online classes, there has been a significant shortening of the academic year and loss of the instructional hours,” a statement from the Board said.

To make up the instructional hours lost this year 2010-21 owing to the Pandemic, the board has worked out with the subject experts to device an effective syllabus while slashing it. The council also stated that the “syllabus reduction has been done keeping in mind the linear progression across classes while ensuring that the core concepts related to the subject are retained”.

The board just recently also announced a new marking scheme in line with the situation which forbids the ICSE and ISC examinations to take place this year. Based on the current circular by the CISCE, the students who did not appear for the finals will be marked based on three-parameter – percentage subject project work, best of three marks, and subject proper, Indian Express reports. Students will be averaged on these parameters mentioned.
