Dr Judy Mikovits coronavirus conspiracy trends online, spreading misinformation

In a recent round of trend surrounding the COVID-19, an otherwise unknown Ph.D. researcher, Dr. Judy Mitkovis hails as an ‘exposer’ of “the scientific and political elite who run the scam that is our global health system.” The phrase ‘dr judy mikovits coronavirus’ has topped Googles’  global list of searchers.

In a nearly 26 minutes video – extract of the controversial documentary called Plandemic – Dr. Judy Mikovits, a discredited scientist, brings in front many baseless conspiracy theories that target the people in power, and question steps taken by the powerful governments to inhabit the spread.

She accuses them of stimulating diseases like Covid-19 and comfortably presents herself as a star in the scientific community, the revealer of virus disinformation.

Her video promotes how the current treatment, vaccinations, and the pandemic as a whole is a part of a got-up plan. Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Antony Fuci and Bill Gates is her prominent targets, whom she accuses of creating the diseases to grab power. Fuci is a leading member of the Whitehouse coronavirus taskforce. Gates, a billionaire, co-founder of Microsoft and a philanthropist.

In the week ending May 10, her video was widely shared across major technology platforms, garnering millions of views. Despite her video – a hodgepodge of conspiracy theories – was repeatedly taken down from public view, new copies kept surfacing.

Anti-vaccinators, conspiracy groups like QAnon, and minor celebrities who shared the video online helped the pseudoscientific claim gather steam. This phenomenon underscores how conspiracy theories surrounding an ongoing crisis can be fodder for the broader audience that’s already in fear and panic.

Claims that are scratching scientists on their heads

Major platforms like Youtube and Facebook have reportedly taken down the video for spreading false rumors and unscientific theories surrounding the outbreak of COVID-19.

Speaking to NBC News, a Facebook spokesperson told: “suggesting that wearing a mask can make you sick could lead to imminent harm.” They confirmed the video will be removed.

Twitter has blocked hashtags like #PlagueOf Corruption from showing up in trends. But the video is made available on the website to download, and new copies keep surfacing online and uploaded individually, garnering hundreds of thousands of likes whenever uploaded.

“Our videos are being taken down every minute. We appreciate your support. More coming soon…,” the website writes.

“In an effort to bypass the gatekeepers of free speech, we invite you to download this interview by simply clicking the button below, then uploading directly to all of your favorite platforms,” it adds.

Major outlets like The New York Times and NBC News has approached Dr. Judy Mikovits for comments, but no reply.

Mikovits claims Dr. Fauci has buried down her research on vaccines and it’s immune-destroying effects on humans, which she believes is the reason for the spread of Coronavirus, The New York Times writes.

She also holds Bill Gates as one of the creators of the disease. In 2015, Bill Gates, in a Ted Talk, spoke about how a virus could pose a threat to humanity. Now, kindled by Mikovit’s allegations, conspiracists and anti-vaccinators took the chance to garb the billionaire philanthropist in an anti-socialist robe.

According to the New York Times, controversialists and anti-vaccinators have fueled major conspiracy theories keeping the fear and uncertainty over the virus as a prop. Some of the assumptions go as far as claiming 5g internet waves is a potential carrier of the virus.

More than 30 telecommunication infrastructures were reportedly vandalized in numbers like – towers set to blaze – across Britain last month. The British government officials say the attacks of arson are fueled by conspiracy theories that claim 5g waves bring specific changes in bodies that leads an individual to succumb to the diseases.

Coronavirus has rapidly spread across the world, with over 3 million confirmed cases and 200,00 deaths.

Novel coronavirus “not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus.”

There has been some buzz about the origin of the virus that first got spotted in Hubei province, Wuhan, China.

An article published in the Journal Science declares, “Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus.”

Mikovits, on the other hand, in the video claims otherwise. “The virus didn’t jump directly to humans. That’s not how it works. That’s accelerated viral evolution. If it was a natural occurrence, it would take it up to 800 years to occur,” she says.

The self-proclaimed truth exposer did not rest after profoundly propagating her pseudoscientific assumptions. She went to the extent of declaring that “wearing the mask literally activates your own virus.”

“You’re getting sick from your own reactivated coronavirus expressions, and if it happens to be SARS-CoV-2, then you’ve got a big problem,” she claims. What Mikovits meant baffled scientists left and right.

An airborne disease expert told Factcheck. Org that “If you’re shedding (breathing out) virus, then you’re already infected. Even without a mask, infected people who are shedding viruses probably rebreathe some of their own viruses, but there are already billions times more viruses in your body. Hopefully, the mask is protecting other people from your exhalations.”

Dr. Judy Mikovits

The virologist in question has a degree in biology from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. in molecular biology from George Washington University. The woman held positions in Nationaion Cancer Institue and Whittemore Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease between 1992-2011.

In 2011, Mikovits was fired from Whittemore after her research into chronic fatigue syndrome was discredited. She reportedly lifted lab notebooks, laptops, and other informative articles from the institute. However, in her video, she claims she was arrested ‘for no reason.’

Speaking about the scientist’s sudden rise in mentions, media data analyst Zignal labs say her rise to notoriety is sudden, with the lady rarely mentioned on social media in February, the New York Times reports.

Later she was promoted by some far-right media groups like The Epoch Times where she was interviewed under the headline ‘expert opinion,’ generation hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.
