Coronavirus news: I can’t allow America’s resources go in an organisation that doesn’t serve her interests, Donald Trump warns WHO

-

In a recent development of the WHO-USA relationship, the US president writes to the Director-General of the global health organization, threatening to turn the current temporary funding into permanent.

A four-page letter was published by the American President that gives a 30-day ultimatum to the World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus to bring ‘substantiative improvements’ on matters related to COVID-19, or else risk losing millions of American funding and membership altogether.

The US president had halted funding WHO temporarily last month accusing the global health body of endorsing China’s ‘disinformation’ on the novel coronavirus and “failed response to the COVID-19 outbreak,” as written in the letter.

“I cannot allow American taxpayer dollars to continue to finance an organization, that in its present state, is so clearly not serving America’s interest,”   (Image courtesy of the UN via Unsplash)

According to Trump, WHO’s response to the pandemic “have been extremely costly for the world,” Mr. Trump writes in the letter, adding that the only way forward is in showing ‘actual demonstration in ‘independence from China.’

“That is why it is my duty, as President of the United States, to inform you that, if the World Health organization does not commit to major substantiated improvements within the next 30 days, I will make my temporary fees of United States funding to the World Health organization permanent and reconsider our membership in the organization.”

“I cannot allow American taxpayer dollars to continue to finance an organization, that in its present state, is so clearly not serving America’s interest,” the President signs off the letter saying this.

The letter systematically outlines all the US allegations to WHO in four pages.

Coronavirus has so far killed 319k people across the globe, the majority of it is from the US. The number of infected people is racing to touch 5 million. President Trump himself has been charged for America’s handling of the Pandemic.
