Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has said the Muslims have a right to be ‘angry’ and kill millions of French, shortly after the brutal stabbing of three people happened in Southern France.
In an extraordinary outburst on Twitter — now removed for violating Twitter policies — following the Nice stabbing incident, the outspoken 95-years-old ex-Malay politician said that the French owes to the Muslims millions of lives.
“Irrespective of the religion professed, angry people, kill,” he said on Twitter adding that he does not approve the killing but also disapproves of insulting in the name of freedom of expression.
By insult, he was referring to France’s iron stance on defending the freedom of expression through cartoons which was apparently the reason for the Samuel Patty beheading two weeks ago.
Samuel Patty, a French teacher of history was beheaded for showing a caricature to students in a class of freedom of expression. Depicting the Prophet is considered blasphemous in Islam.
“The French in the course of their history has killed millions of people. Many were Muslims. Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past,” he said, although making to direct connection with the Nice killing France 24 reports. However, this tweet is no longer available.
“The French should teach their people to respect other people’s feelings. Since you have blamed all Muslims and the Muslims’ religion for what was done by one angry person, the Muslims have a right to punish the French.”
He also said the boycott is not enough to make France compensate for the wrongs committed by France all these years. Mohamad stirred controversy in the past for his critical comments on LGBT people, women, and the Jews.
Many Muslim-majority countries have boycotted French products while many nations are demonstrating in tens of thousands after France vowed to crack down on radical Islam and never give up their cartoons.
French Secretary of State for Digital Sector, Cédric O issued a comment following the Malaysian ministers dangerous remarks that come at a time France is under renewed pressure from the pandemic.
He said: “I just spoke with the Managing Director of Twitter France. The account of former Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad must be immediately suspended. If not, Twitter would be an accomplice to a formal call for murder,” news agency ANI quoted.
On Thursday, a man stabbed three people to death and wounded many others near the famed Notre-Dame basilica in Souther French city of Nice.
The attacker was arrested by the police who confirmed that he attacked to many Patty pay for insulting the Prophet. He got wounded in a short gunfight with the French police and was shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is the greatest) while he was being treated, Nice Mayor told reporters.
Muhammad’s comments come at a time when France is reeling from the double whammy of a growing number of COVID-19 cases nationwide and the threat of Islamic attacks. The nation is on an ‘urgent’ scale of awareness, following the Nice beheading incident.
