Popstar Demi Lovato announces they are non-binary

New York, United States: Pop star Demi Lovato on Wednesday shared that they are non-binary and will start using the pronouns they/them, saying “this has come after a lot of healing and self-reflective work.”

A gender non-binary person neither identifies as a male nor a female, hence they choose they/them personal pronoun for identification.

“I’m still learning & coming into myself, and I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me,” wrote the singer — whose music fame exploded after they worked as a Disney Channel actor — on social media.

This has come after a lot of healing & self-reflective work. I’m still learning & coming into myself, & I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me.

“I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way xox.”

“Non-binary” is a term used by some people who do not identify exclusively as a man or a woman, the traditional gender binary.

The 28-year-old singer behind hits like “Sorry Not Sorry” has been open about their struggles with mental health, including depression, eating disorders, and addiction.

Not only has my life been a journey for myself, I was also living for those on the other side of the cameras.

In a recent documentary, they also detailed suffering rape as a teenager.

Lovato in 2018 suffered a near-fatal fentanyl overdose that caused brain damage and partial blindness.

Lovato is an interview with Joe Rogan for his Experience podcast said that she would also consider adopting having children. At that time they identified as pansexual.

“At this moment I want to adopt [children] for sure,” they revealed. “I also don’t know if I’m going to end up with a guy, so I can’t really see myself even getting pregnant. I don’t know. I’m so fluid now, and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is that I was super closeted off.”

The Cool For The Summer singer has stated that they will express their sexuality through lyrics before coming out to the public.

Demi stated, there were occasions when they created songs about girls that their fans mistook for songs about boys.

“I was broadcasting it to the world, but I wasn’t being entirely transparent about what I was saying. Music provided a secure haven for me,” they were quoted as saying.

Lovato’s personal documentary, Dancing with the Devil, was posted on YouTube earlier this year.

In their recent album “Dancing with the Devil…The Art of Starting Over,” Lovato airs much of that trauma, delving into topics including sobriety. Some tracks also see a more open embrace of gender non-conformity.
