Ankita Lokhande tells-all about her break-up with Sushant Sing Rajput
Siliguri, India: Bollywood actor Ankita Lokhande, best known for her work on a TV series 'Pavitra Rishta' that she co-starred with late actor Sushant Sing Rajput made some never-before-known revelations about her relationship and subsequent break-up with Sushant.
Sushant Sing Rajput dated Lokhande during their TV days and was the talk of the town being one of the most sought-after TV pairs of the time. But their relationship came to a halt after two and a half years of dating in 2016.
Ankita never really spoke out about how the break-up affected her life and career at that time, until recently in an interview with Bollywood Bubble.
Sushant Sing Rajput committed suicide on a Sunday last year June in his Mumbai apartment. He left no notes and his death stirred a flurry of controversies in the Bollywood film industry.
Speaking to the entertainment outlet, Lokhande said, she has to hear comments hurled at her saying she left Sushant, she said, asking, 'how do you know that?'
"Nobody knows about my thing, you know. I am not blaming anyone here. Sushant... I think, he made his choice very clear. He wanted to go on with his career. He chose his career and moved on. But for two-and-a-half years, I was dealing with so many things," Lokhande, who is now best known for her role in 'Manikarnika,' said.
She said, there was a time when all she used to do was to sleep in a bed, not talk to anyone, including her mother and father. There were so many things going on in her mind, that she used to stay engrossed in her things, she told the outlet.
"Things come to your mind, at that time," she said. "What can I do, you know, maybe I wanted to finish myself. There are people, who came (to my place and said) damn, remove his photos...are you mad you've stuck Sushant's images? I said, give me time, yaar, I need my time," she said sharing the deluge of emotions she battled following the breakup.
Sharing further she said, however, a time came when she thought it was okay to remove Sushant's pictures. "Ek din aaya ( a day came) when I realized that now I am done, now I need to remove the pictures. And I removed it. I felt that ek jagah khali hogi tabhi toh doosri pictures aayegi (when I'll create space only then new pictures will come). I met Vicky and he is in my life. I am very, very, very happy with him, she said.
Lokhande said she is not the kind of person who can simply move on after being with somebody for two and a half years.
Ankita on losing Bajirao Mastani, Ramleela and more
In the interview, Lokhande also revealed how she passed on many films, including Happy New Year offered to her by director Farah Khan.
"I gave up on many things. I gave up on Happy New Year. I remember Farah ma'am offered me the film and I met Shah Rukh sir also. He was like, 'I will try to give you the best debut.' And I was like, okay, but at the back of my mind... I was in Macau. Me, Sushant, and Shah Rukh, we were sitting, and I was like 'God, I hope I don't get it.' When it comes to women, they always think: 'No yaar, I wish the best for my partner'. Till today, I have no regrets. I was trying to build a man and I did that, you know, quietly I was trying to be very strong support for Sushant."
Lokhande also said she opted out from a role offered to her by Sanjay Leela Banshali for Bajirao Mastani, and even Raamleela and Sultan more recently.
“I remember Sanjay sir called me and said, ‘Kar le Bajirao varna yaad rakh, pachtayegi tu (Do Bajirao Mastani or you will regret it later).’ He was literally praising me and Sanjay sir saying that is a very big thing. Then I was like, ‘Nahi sir, mujhe shaadi karni hai (No, sir. I want to get married).’ I still remember that and he did not have anything to say," Ankita shared.
On being judged following her breakup with Sushant, Lokhande said: "till the time my parents know me so well, till the time my partner knows me, I am really not bothered," she said.
Ankita was one of the few actors who stayed by Sushant Sing Rajput's family after his tragic demise.
