India’s COVID-19 infections surged by another 73,272 new cases on Saturday, taking the national total to 69,79,424, updated federal Health Ministry data showed.
With the new upsurge, India is closer than ever to touch the whopping 7 million milestones, which no other nations apart from the US have reached so far.
On Friday India recorded 70,496 cases along with 964 deaths. On Saturday, the death toll got an addition of 926 deaths in 24-hours, taking the country’s total fatality to 107,416.
5.9 million infected people have been discharged and some 883k is currently undergoing treatment as per the health ministry bulletin. This puts the discharge rate at 86% and active number rate at 12.65%.
Death rate from the virus remains at 1.54 percent of the total caseload, and majority (70%) of COVID-19-related deaths occur from co-morbidities.
Battling a shaken economy, India is currently under the Unlock 5.0 plan that gives more relaxation to businesses.
The US in the meantime is racing to touch the bleak mark of 8 million COVID-19 cases at 7.69 million. The latest figures from Friday showed the number of new COVID-19 infections in the US is double than what they were in June.
