Another day of record daily jump in the number of new coronavirus infections in India took the national total to 3.39 million on Friday, Federal health ministry data showed.
77,266 new cases were confirmed today, adding to the surging cases of COVID-19 in the country. This comes a day after India broke the world record of tracing the highest number of cases in a single day since August 7, Reuters tally showed.
In the last 24-hours, 1,057 fatalities were reported, taking the total fatality rate to 61,529. Unfortunately, India’s current status, with 7,42,043 active cases surpassed that of Brazil’s taking second place in the world’s second-most active COVID-19 hotspot.
Despite the skyrocketing cases, India’s government has maintained the nation’s fatality rate is comparatively lower, thanks to the robust Test-Trace-Treat approach.
As of now, there is no proven vaccine for the novel coronavirus, and treatment of COVID-19 is solely symptom-oriented. The virus principally spreads through the respiratory droplets of the infected person while coughing, sneezing, or other outlets.
Meanwhile, the US continues to lead the virus race, as well as trying to push the vaccine race too. President Trump, speaking at the Republican Convention said: “We have 3 vaccines that will be available for production soon and they will be available this year. We will have a safe and effective vaccine this year and together we will crush the virus.”
