India’s total novel coronavirus cases took another upsurge with over 96k new cases on Friday, as the pandemic shows no signs of depleting, federal health ministry data shows.
In the last 24-hours, Indian recorded another daily jump of 96,551 new cases on Friday, taking the country’s national total to 4.5 million straight from 4.4 million from the last day.
With the record-breaking daily caseload, unfortunately, came the record-breaking daily death-toll as well. In the last 24-hours, 1,209 deaths were recorded, 37 more from Thursday.
Among the Indian states recently recording an upsurge in cases, Maharashtra by far had the most number of cases with 8698 cases, followed by 2289 of Uttar Pradesh, 2067 of Karnataka, and other states like Delhi, Jammu, and Kashmir, Haryana, Chattisgarh with over a 1000 cases roughly.
It must be noted, despite the alarming spurt in new cases, deaths have been relatively lower as compared to the massive population and number of infections.
Although for the last 10 days at a stretch, the number of recorded deaths in the country has seen an uptick, Reuters reports. More than 1k deaths have been recorded in the last 10 days.
Total number of cases in India stands at 4,562,414 with 76,271 deaths. India fatality rate stood at 1.6 per cent this morning, while recovery rate was at 77.76 per cent.
As of now, India’s most promising COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca is put on hold following an ‘unexplained illness’ in a test subject. AstraZeneca announced it has stopped the trials to investigate in the US and UK markets.
