India’s esteemed school of Information technology, IIT Kharagpur, has developed a rapid coronavirus testing kit that they are claiming to deliver highly accurate results that will be automatically delivered in people’s smartphones.
What they’ve named a ‘Novel Technology for COVID-19 Rapid Test’ the technology behind this invention will enable users to diagnose the novel coronavirus within one hour without any manual interventions, and the results will be delivered straight at the user’s smartphone via a customized app, once it is ready, India Times reports.
What is more, according to the report, the same device can be used for a number of tests; all the user needs to do is to change the paper cartridge after every test.
The sole technology behind the new rapid test kit is a paper cartridge for chemical analysis and visualization of results. The conclusion of the results have been verified by the researchers and is thoroughly accurate.
The makers behind the amazing device are also claiming, that results from the ‘Novel Technology for COVID-19 Rapid Test’ is as accurate as standard RT-PCR tests, the common method to test COVID-19.
The tests will be also comparatively cheaper at Rs. 400/ test, inclusive of all business models considered.
The device is also made keeping in mind all the scientific essentials, thermal unit, standardized bio-analytical protocol, and overall device design.
Dr. Arindam Mondal, Assistant Professor, School of BioScience, IIT Kharagpur also said, the device is capable of testing any RNA virus following the same generic procedure.
“The impact of this, therefore, is long-lasting, empowered by the capability of detecting unforeseen viral pandemics in the coming years that may potentially endanger human lives time and again,” Dr. Mondol told India Times.
Staggeringly, the price of manufacturing the device will be significantly smaller as compared to the standard RT-PCR machines that cost up to 15 lakhs.
In comparison, the same device with similar results will be made at a price cheaper than 2k, if mass-manufactured. Under the pilot facility, the device has been estimated to cost around Rs. 2k.
