Gangster Vikas Dubey who was wanted since he slayed eight policemen, was killed in an encounter while on his way to Kanpur from Madhya Pradesh.
According to Police sources warranting the media on the incident, Dubey’s vehicle where he was onboard with four policemen, overturned. The criminal allegedly tried to grasp a pistol from the police and flee.
Police tried to nudge him to surrender but in vain. Dubey allegedly lodged an attack on the police, and in self-defense, UP police fried Dubey. Upon arrival, he was declared dead by the doctor.
Fresh media reports suggest Vikas Dubey has three bullet injuries- one in arm and two in the chest. Bullets also brushed past other police on the scene, who are reportedly stable.
According to a Times of India report, hours before Dubay was killed, a petition was already filed in Supreme Court demanding urgent listing of action for a possible ‘killing’ of Vikas Dubey by the UP police, since other criminals were killed in an encounter. Four other associated with Dubey were similarly killed by the UP police in an encounter.
The incident has also raised questions. ANI on-scene footage shows media vehicles being stopped near the Sachendi area of Kanpur before the criminal was killed. Watch below:
While the majority of the on-scene footage of the crime shows a cream white Mahindra TUV 500 overturned, which the UP police has been claiming was the vehicle of Dubey, video footage taken before the encounter shows the criminal was not traveling in a TUV 500, but a TATA Safari.
Zeba Warsi, special correspondent of CNN News 18 tweeted: “Wasn’t a dreaded criminal handcuffed?” “WHY wasn’t he shot below the waist when he tried to flee?” “WHY was media stopped just before the accident?”
Trinamool Congress MLA Mahua Moitra wrote: “Only thing killed in Yogiji’s “encounter Raj” is justice!” “In case it has escaped some of us … the police aren’t supposed to kill guilty people either,” she tweeted.
