Viral footage from Northern Wisconsin shows a painful incident where a baby bear got its head stuck inside a plastic container while the poor animal frantically swims to reach the shore.

Footage shared by NBC15 News was shot by the Hurt family while they were fishing on a lake in Wisconsin. The US state has a thriving black bear population, with an estimated 24k bears living in the northern woods of the state. Often they are spotted swimming in lakes and loitering in the region.

In the footage, the Hurt family spotted a baby bear with its head stuck inside a plastic container while the bear frantically swims to reach the shore. The animal is evidently terrified. A woman’s voice in the background explains: “we’ve got a bear here, the poor thing’s got a tub on its head, obviously getting scared,” she can be heard saying.

In the video, the family nudges the boat near the bear to try to remove the plastic tub from its head, but could not manage to lift it in the first attempt. At one point, the bear shifts its course of swimming and swims away from the boat. However, after many trials, they were finally able to get it out from the animal’s head. See the footage below:

According to NBC15 News, after successfully removing the container, the bear was able to safely reach the other side of the shore.

People were glad that the family was able to save the poor baby bear. It must have been a terrifying experience of the baby to swim amid a lake with a head stuck inside something. The video has been so far re-tweeted over 8k times and got more than 40k likes.

“That must have been dangerous. I’m at glad they succeeded!” someone wrote. “That broke my heart to see that poor guy struggling. Thank God this family was there! Great work you guys and thank you,” another person wrote.

“We saved our little bear, swim happy!” the someone from the family who saved the bear shouted triumphantly. We can’t be happier.
