Earthquake of 5.5 magnitude strikes Gujarat in Rajkot


An earthquake touching 5.5 (corrected by NCS from the previous assertion of 5.8) on the Richter scale jolts Gujarat near Rajkot. The National Center for Seismology of Rajkot confirms the quake was felt in the city at 8:13 pm today, ANI reported.

ANI also reports another earthquake of magnitude 3.0 struck 90 km east of Katra,in Jammu and Kashmir at 8:35 pm, NCS confirmed.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani reportedly telephoned Collectors of the three districts of Rajkot, Kutch and Patan for insight into the conditions there.

The tremors were so strong people started to compare it with the 2001 earthquake that wreaked havoc in Gujarat. No casualties and loss of life and properties have been reported so far. Irrespective of it, the tremors forced people out of their homes in places like Rajkot and Ahmedabad.

The intensive was so strong tremors were felt in other parts of the states like Kutch and Ahmedabad. People were quick to share their experiences on Twitter.
