The US President Donald Trump has COVID-19, the president himself confirmed the diagnosis Friday, and first lady Melania Trump too has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Trump’s diagnosis for the virus comes at the bottleneck of the White House presidential election pending on November 3.

Earlier on Thursday, one of President Trump’s close advisors Hope Hicks, tested positive for the virus and since then he and his wife have been under quarantine.

On the same day addressing a crowd, Trump reportedly predicted the end of the pandemic is near, Reuters noted. The development could have dramatic consequences for the presidential election.

“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” the president said in a late-night tweet.

The President’s physician Sean Conley in a memo to the White House Press Secretary wrote: “The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions.”

“Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.”

Risk factors for a 74-years-old

As far as the risk factors associated with the president’s diagnosis of covid-19 goes, Trump falls on the high-risk category for his age. President Trump, 74, is also considered overweight and is known for his fast-food Laden died and lack of exercise.

By the nature of the infection, the older population above 60 is at a higher risk of developing a severe version of the illness, which if oftentimes abated by co-morbidities in elders like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, CVD, and more.

Trump who is now waiting for the virus to show symptoms earlier during the pandemic continually downplayed the severity of the situation. He has been healthy throughout the pandemic.

Starting from rebuking the need for a mask in public, to calling the deadly virus a flu, he has evidently champion against scientific protocols for public health in controling the pandemic.

The United States of America continues to retain the top position in the world among countries worst affected by the pandemic.

With over 200 thousand deaths and 7 million confirmed coronavirus cases, the United States is by far the worst-hit nation both in terms of fatality and infection rate.

Health professionals have continuously campaigned for wearing masks as a principle method to control the virus, but President Donald Trump on the other hand ridiculed those who wore masks including Democratic presidential elect Joe Biden.

“I don’t wear masks like him. Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from them and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen,” Trump was quoted as saying to Biden, during the nation’s first Presidency debate.

Disruptions in elections

In the light of the upcoming November, 3 elections Trump visited numerous rallies across the nation, participated in political propaganda without paying much heed to social distancing – a dreadful mistake one can make when an airborne virus is in the air.

Now that the president will be isolated, it is unclear how his duties will be performed in the short-span. Trump’s pending meeting were all canceled following the positive diagnosis, including in-person events with his supporters in Washington.

“As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together,” US first lady Melania Trump wrote on Twitter.

Trump is one of the world’s most high-profile victims of the virus that has infected over 31 million people globally and killed over 1 million, as per Johns Hopkins data.

Other heads of states including Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson were tested positive for the virus earlier. Canadian PM Justin Truedue self-quarantined after his wife tested COVID-19 positive.

As soon as the news broke, Twitter went crazy. #Mr President had over 106k tweets, #TrumpHasCovid had over 420k tweets and #DonaldTrump had over 800k tweets, at the time of writing this article.

“The positive test is yet another reminder that the coronavirus continues to spread, even as Trump has tried desperately to suggest it no longer poses a danger,” China’s English daily, China Daily was quoted by Reuters news agency.

“This demonstrates that the virus spares no one, including those who have shown skepticism. I wish him a swift recovery,” French government spokesperson Gabriel Attal was quoted as saying.

Get-well-soon reactions poured in for the president and wife. Some tweets although did not shy from ridiculing the president for its ironic situation right now. Take a look below.
