Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde was spotted straddling a limited-edition Harley Davidson at a compound in Nagpur, his hometown. He was sporting a t-shirt, a pair of sneakers while trying the absolute beast of a bike.

Not many would expect to see one of the most powerful judges in the world casually trying out a bike, instead of riding a fancy vehicle with tinted windows, as the cliche goes. The judge has earlier expressed his love for bikes and has even confessed owning a bullet in the past.

SA Bobde was clicked trying out a limited edition Harley Davidson CVO 2020, which is one of the most powerful bikes on the planet. It sports the strongest engines developed by the vintage bike-maker, a nearly 2000cc, V-Twin engine which is stronger than many cars out there. The bike is reportedly priced at Rs. 51 lakh (ex-showroom).

But the fact that the judge was clicked without a helmet and a facemask, did not go well with some Twitterati. #ChiefJusticeofIndia started to trend on the micro-blogging platform with scores of people pointing out to the Chief Justice for not wearing a helmet and a mask. While some people could not but express how “cool” India CJ is.

The CJ has been in office since 26 January 1950, the year Indian Constitution and the Supreme Court came into effect. He is supposed to retire in April 2021. CJ Bobde has been a part of India’s major socio-political ruling including the Ayodhya temple-mosque case. CJ Bobde also ruled this year’s Rath Yatra that was allowed to take place without devotees, in a historic decision.

Judging the Chief Judge?

“Life is personal and the choice is personal but a public figure at such a respectable position and authority tends to be an influencer and role model. If he might have used a mask at least in the wake of this #COVID19Pandemic would have been appreciated. He is #chiefjusticeofIndi,” wrote a DU student on Twitter.
